Smoothies are my favorite way to s، each day. Ideal for using up whatever fresh fruit and veggies I have on hand, I love mixing and mat،g different flavor combinations to switch up my morning breakfast. It helps that my kids love them, too, and it’s a great way to make sure we are all getting the vitamins and nutrients we need! This Tropical Green Smoothie is a favorite of mine, as it helps get anyone to eat more dark, leafy greens.

Ingredients

  • Banana: Helps give the smoothie more of a creamy texture, and add some natural sweetness.
  • Mango: A bit ،ery in texture, it’s both sweet to the taste and smell.
  • Pineapple: Full of vitamin C and somewhat sweet and sour in flavor.
  • Ginger: Along with being great for digestive health, the ، gives a little ،y kick to balance out the juicy, sweet tropical fruit.
  • Lemon juice: For another Vitamin C boost and a little acidity to balance the sweetness of the fruit, I squeeze in the juice of half a lemon.
  • Leafy greens: Spinach, kale, chard, or even fresh herbs like cilantro and parsley are all fantastic sources of iron, vitamin K, and antioxidants.
  • Flaxseed meal: One of my favorite smoothie add-ins, it doesn’t really do much to the flavor or texture, but is full of omega 3 ،ty acids.

HOw to Make a Tropical Green Smoothie

S، your smoothie by ،ling and cutting the banana, mango, pineapple, and ،. Then wash your leafy greens.

Putting ingredients in blender

Then add all of your ingredients to a blender.

Add a handful of ice and blend until smooth, adding more ice or water until you reach your desired consistency.

Once fully blended, pour into gl،es.

Tips From the Chef

  • In the off-seasons when certain fresh ،uce isn’t as easy to find and can be a bit cost-prohibitive, I turn to frozen fruit to make my smoothies! Makes it so that you don’t have to use as much ice, either.
  • For a bit of a thicker, creamier smoothie, use milk instead of water. To keep it vegan or dairy free, use coconut milk or almond milk. For added protein, use plain Greek yogurt!

Do leafy greens lose nutrients when blended?

Nope! You won’t lose any of the benefits when blending fruits or vegetables, including leafy greens!

Can I make this smoothie in advance?

While I don’t recommend blending the smoothie too long before you plan to enjoy, a great tip is to divide the ingredients between four plastic resealable bags and freezing them until you’re ready to blend. Add lemon juice and water before blending.

Which is healthier, blending or juicing?

While juicing is still a great way to get nutrients from fruits and vegetables, you miss out on a lot of fiber and other vitamins by removing all of the pulp and skin when juicing. Smoothies make sure you don’t miss out on any of the good stuff!
